The department offers all its lectures in state-of-the-art
multimedia classrooms and lecture/labs. There are labs exclusively for
the use of CS students and contain all the software needed in the courses.
The college maintains special educational software licenses from
Microsoft, Oracle, Borland, Sun, TogetherSoft and various other prominent
software vendors. Labs are connected by a departmental network and are
also connected to Internet through high speed connection using latest
technologies. Hardware labs contain equipment for teaching courses such
as digital electronics, computer organization, microprocessors, digital signal
processing, data communications, local area networks and embedded systems.
The college also maintains Windows, UNIX, LINUX, and Oracle database
servers.
Resources: Following is an overview of resources used in
the department and the history of their upgrades (as of Dec 2006).
-
E 102: This multimedia class
room is extensively used for teaching various computer science
courses. While 80% of the time this room is used for CS
classes, other departments also have classes scheduled in this
room. Desktop is last upgraded in Fall 2004.
-
E 201: This lecture/lab/multimedia room has 25 PCs
using Windows OS upgraded in Fall 2004. This room also
serves as multimedia class room and is mostly used for teaching
freshman CS courses. When no CS courses are scheduled,
students may use for homework.
-
E 202: This
lecture/lab/multimedia room also has 25 PCs from Fall 2004 with Windows
OS. It serves as the only lab where students can work
uninterrupted by lectures, for the most part. While we minimize
the number of classes scheduled in this room, we were not successful so
far in keeping this lab completely free from lectures.
-
E 203: The electronics hardware lab is used for the two
undergraduate courses “Introduction to Electronics (CSC 1600)” and “Digital
Electronics (CSC 1650)”, both required for CS majors. The lab is also
used for the graduate course, “Embedded Systems”. The computer equipment
in this lab is upgraded in FY 2006. A multimedia cart is also used for
conducting other classes.
-
E 205A: This room is used as the
embedded systems lab and houses equipment for NSF supported
research in virtual firefly simulations.
-
E 206: This microprocessor lab is used for two
undergraduate courses “Computer Organization (CSC 2600)” and “Microprocessors
(CSC 3600)” required for CS majors. The computer equipment
in this lab is upgraded in FY 2006. Other hardware upgrades to this lab are being made
using departmental budget as needed.
-
E 301: This room serves as LAN lab and LINUX Lab. During FY 2006, 16
PCs were bought to upgrade the LAN lab.
Students can access Internet from Dorms. They can
also register for courses and view their transcripts on-line. They may
also post their own personal web pages on college web servers.
