ADVISING IN THE DEPARTMENT
|
There are several levels of advising available to the students in
the Computer Science department.
-
Pre-registration advising: Each student in the day and
evening programs is assigned an advisor. Prior to registering for courses each
semester, the student will meet with the advisor to plan what courses need to
be taken in the coming semester. Advising for the next semester takes place
typically during the third month of the current semester. A course checklist is
utilized for each degree program to assist with the advising. In addition,
four-year plan of study is available for undergraduate programs. Policies
on Internships and Thesis can also be downloaded from here.
-
List of advisors: Day students in the CS and CIS programs
can find their advisor by consulting the list posted next to Chair's office.
For evening students, advising is the responsibility of program managers for
CS, CIS and certificate programs and graduate Chair for the MS program. Names
of these individuals are also posted next to Chair's office. These lists are
also being provided here.
-
Office hours: Each instructor is required to provide
office hours to assist students with course related questions and issues. Most
instructors also allow for appointments at other times. This information is
provided with the syllabus during the first week of classes.
-
Policy advising: The Chair of the department can
assist you with various departmental policies, procedures and
waivers including LECAP.
-
Peer Tutoring Help: This service is staffed by students
who have already taken the particular course in question and are paid for their
help. The service is free for the students seeking it. For more information,
contact the college's
Peer Tutoring Center. Help is available for
many courses in several departments. For other academic services visit
Academic Advising Center.
